Proper Pot Noodles

So quick you won’t believe it!

We made this recipe in Kitchen Garden Club on Wednesday 1st February to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 2 Minutes

Equipment: Chopping Board, Knife, Wok, Spatula.

Ingredients:

410ml chicken or vegetable stock 2 spring onions, chopped (optional) 2tsps sunflower oil 200g stir-fly vegetables (thinly sliced peppers, bean sprouts, cabbage etc – buy a packet or grow your own) 300g straight-to-wok noodles 250g cooked prawns (optional) Soy sauce, to taste. ‘Fool’ of good stuff!

We made this in Kitchen Garden Club on Wednesday 1st February 2012.

Equipment: Peeler, Sharp Knife and Chopping Board, Small Saucepan, Wooden Spoon, Blender.

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 20 Minutes

Ingredients:

2 red dessert apples 2 green dessert apples or 1 cooking apple 200g tub Greek yoghurt or custard (or half and half) Honey (optional) Peel the apples and cut the cores (the hard middle bit with all the seeds) out with a sharp knife. Porridge and Eggy Bread

The children in Kitchen Garden Club made porridge and eggy bread and then celebrated their success with a cup of strawberry smoothie which they made using our home-grown strawberries.  It was delicious.

French Toast (Eggy Bread)

Serves 2

2 slices bread

2 eggs

70ml semi-skimmed milk

small knob of butter for frying each slice

Method

Place the bread on the chopping board ready for use.

Break the eggs into the shallow casserole dish and add all of the milk.

Gently beat the mixture with a fork until the yolk and the white are mixed together with the milk.

Place the bread into the mixture, making sure it is totally covered.  Be sure to let the mixture soak into the bread and turn over if necessary.

Porridge

Serves 1

50g porridge oats or gluten-free oats

150ml water

150ml semi-skimmed milk

Method

Measure and weigh all of the ingredients.

Place the oats, water and milk into a small saucepan, bring to the boil and simmer gently for four minutes, stirring all the time.

Serves2

75g strawberries/or other berries of your choice.

1 ripe banana

150ml semi-skimmed milk

150g low-fat yoghurt or a small pot

1 x 5ml spoon honey

Method

Wash the berries in a colander.

Peel the banana and chop into pieces.

Put the milk, yoghurt, honey into the blender.

Blend for 30-40 seconds or until all the ingredients are smooth.
